An arrangement in which the employer and employee agree on a fixed number of work hours over a specified time period (weekly, monthly, quarterly), e.g. 24 hours a week. Additional hours are accumulated in a time bank and taken as time-off in-lieu.
This arrangement may only be used for employees not covered under the Employment Act. Employees covered under the Employment Act who are asked to work overtime or to return to work on their off days or rest days are entitled to higher rates of pay for the hours worked.
